BEIJING -- Wang Yang has stressed the role of private enterprises in the country's pursuit of high-quality development.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks on Sunday at a symposium for private entrepreneurs ahead of the upcoming Spring Festival, the Chinese New Year.

The role of private enterprises should be viewed properly, as well as their difficulties, challenges and development prospects, in order to boost the healthy growth of the private sector, Wang said.

He called for efforts to pool the wisdom and power of the private sector to achieve targets of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects and realizing national rejuvenation.

Implementing new development concepts and boosting high-quality development is a necessary requirement to enhance the country's economic innovation and competitiveness, and it is also the key for the private sector to achieve steady and far-reaching development, Wang said.

The CPC Central Committee has been supporting the private sector through improving the business environment and rolling out policies to cut taxes, lowering costs and increasing convenience, and this has boosted the confidence of the sector and injected energy into it, according to entrepreneurs at the symposium.

Eight entrepreneurs gave speeches at the symposium, which was chaired by You Quan, head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee.
