The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a teleseminar in Beijing on May 21 about promoting ethnic exchanges, communication and integration through integrated cultural and tourism development.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting.

Wang said that since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has committed to forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation and building the community of the Chinese nation, as well as to promoting the integrated development of culture and tourism.

CPPCC members should thoroughly implement the arrangements in this regard during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), he said, and make their suggestions more relevant and pragmatic.

Wang said that the CPPCC should focus on upholding a correct view of Chinese national history, and strengthening the understanding and interpretation of the historical culture of ethnic exchanges, communication and integration and the joint promotion of Chinese modernization by all ethnic groups. He urged CPPCC members to carry out surveys and make suggestions on innovating and improving the cultural and tourism service system to deepen ethnic exchanges, communication and integration and on using cultural and tourism integration to tell the story of the community of the Chinese nation.

CPPCC members in the fields of culture, tourism and ethnic affairs should leverage their expertise to play a greater role in promoting cultural and tourism integration so as to facilitate ethnic exchanges, communication and integration, he added.

Members of the CPPCC National Committee spoke via video link from the main venue in Beijing and local venues in Jilin, Guizhou, Yunnan, and Qinghai provinces and the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

They suggested focusing on forging a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, further exploring, documenting, and developing the historical facts, heritage sites, and living cultural traditions that reflect ethnic exchanges, communication and integration. Localities should be encouraged to make full use of natural landscapes, historical culture and other cultural and tourism resources to deepen the research and interpretation of basic issues of the community of the Chinese nation and tourism narratives, so as to forge common ground and gather popular support through culture and tourism, they said.

It is necessary, they said, to support ethnic regions in strengthening the cultivation of talents in cultural creativity, enhancing tourism facilities, enriching product supply, and improving services. It is recommended to build online platforms for cultural and tourism integration and promote mutual reinforcement between online and offline efforts, they added.

Vice-chairpersons of the CPPCC National Committee Hu Chunhua, Bater, Wang Dongfeng, Jiang Xinzhi, Jiang Zuojun, and Wang Guangqian attended the meeting. Leading officials from the Cyberspace Administration of China, the National Ethnic Affairs Commission and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism gave briefings on relevant work and conducted consultations and exchanges with CPPCC National Committee members.
