The 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its 41st biweekly consultation meeting in Beijing on Feb 4. The meeting discussed how the CPPCC National Committee can facilitate the participation of overseas Chinese in Chinese modernization.
Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting.
Wang noted that since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has attached great importance to overseas Chinese affairs. The CPC Central Committee has developed a series of important plans and set clear requirements for fully implementing the Party's policies on overseas Chinese affairs, broadly uniting and engaging with overseas Chinese, and bringing into play their active role in the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, thereby breaking new ground in this field, according to Wang.
Wang called for further study and implementation of the important decisions made by the CPC Central Committee concerning overseas Chinese affairs, and more research-based consultation and policy recommendations in the field.
Ten members of the CPPCC National Committee and one expert shared their views at the meeting. They emphasized strengthening ties with overseas Chinese and enabling them to share the opportunities presented by Chinese modernization.
They also called for efforts to optimize the innovation and entrepreneurship environment, facilitating their active participation in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Belt and Road cooperation.
It is essential to encourage and support overseas Chinese in telling China's stories, promoting Chinese culture and fostering cultural exchanges with other countries, they added.
CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons Hu Chunhua, Shen Yueyue, Bater, Su Hui, Xian Hui, Wang Dongfeng, Jiang Xinzhi, Jiang Zuojun, and Wang Guangqian attended the meeting. Senior officials from the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Education provided briefings and engaged in discussions with CPPCC members.
