The Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSL) hosted an event under the theme "Rooted in the Same Land, Commemorating the Restoration" to mark the 81st anniversary of Taiwan's restoration to China. It was held at the Memorial Square for Unsung Heroes in Western Hills National Forest Park in Beijing on Oct 24.
Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairwoman of the TDSL Central Committee, attended the event.
Zheng Jianmin, vice-chairman of the TDSL Central Committee and president of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, presided over the commemorative ceremony.
All present stood in solemn silence to pay tribute to the unsung heroes, remembering the martyrs on the covert front who sacrificed their lives in Taiwan in the 1950s for national unification and the cause of people's liberation.
After the moment of silence, Su stepped forward to adjust the satin ribbons on the flower basket.
During the ceremony, Jiang Liping, vice-chairman and secretary-general of the TDSL Central Committee, delivered an address.
He noted that this year marks the 81st anniversary of Taiwan's restoration, a great victory in the nationwide war of resistance against Japanese aggression.
It embodies the profound devotion to home and country of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, who defended their homeland and stood firm in safeguarding national reunification, he added.
Leading officials from the United Front Work Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, Beijing-based TDSL members, Taiwan compatriots from various sectors, representatives from relevant institutions, as well as officials of the TDSL Central Committee and Beijing Municipal Committee, also attended the event.
