To study and implement the guiding principles of the national health meeting and the instructions of Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and carry forward the fine tradition of the Chinese nation of respecting and assisting the elderly, the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports of the CPPCC National Committee launched a health science popularization activity for senior scientists and technicians.

The event, part of the "Serving the People" initiative for CPPCC members to perform their duties, was held at the China Science and Technology Hall on Oct 23. This October is China's 17th National Respect for the Elderly Month.

Shen Yueyue, Wang Guangqian, and Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairpersons of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the event.

Liu Meilin, a member of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a lecture titled "Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Treatment and Chronic Disease Management".

Combining first-hand clinical experience with the characteristics of the elderly, Liu elaborated on key aspects including risk factor screening, early identification and warning, personalized diagnosis and treatment, safe and rational medication, and long-term follow-up management.

Li Jinghai, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, noted that participants could easily understand from the lecture, which was rich in information and presented in plain language, what a scientific and healthy lifestyle is, and learned many practical methods for chronic disease management.

The senior scientists and technicians said that the experts from ten clinical departments provided consultation services for them on site.

The experts answered their questions patiently and thoroughly, and also conducted a comprehensive assessment integrating traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine, which truly helped them address practical health concerns.

CPPCC members and experts stated that these senior scientists and technicians have dedicated decades of their lives to advancing the development of the country and that they felt deeply honored to utilize their professional expertise to safeguard the health of these individuals.

Going forward, more accessible health service activities will be organized to publicize the Party's people-centered health policies and promote scientific health concepts so as to help accelerate the building of a Healthy China, they said.

Chen Baosheng, chairperson of the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports, presided over the launch ceremony, with Xu Yanhao and Cao Jun, vice-chairpersons of the committee, participating in the activity.
