The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a symposium in Beijing on Oct 21 to review and analyze China's macroeconomic performance in the third quarter of 2026. Wang Yong and Gao Yunlong, vice-chairmen of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the meeting.

Officials from the National Bureau of Statistics briefed participants on the performance of the national economy in the first three quarters of the year, while the National Development and Reform Commission provided a written report on relevant policy measures at the symposium.

Participants noted that, since the beginning of this year, existing policies and new policy measures worked in tandem, keeping China's economy generally stable while making steady progress. New achievements have been made in high-quality development, and the resilience and vitality of the economy continued to strengthen.

They stressed the need to fully implement the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee, assess the current economic situation objectively and comprehensively, remain confident in China's development, and make the most of available opportunities and strengths.

They also called for a stronger sense of responsibility and commitment in economic work, greater initiative in fulfilling responsibilities, and rigorous implementation of policies and measures to ensure the year's economic and social development goals are achieved.

CPPCC members and experts put forward recommendations in response to profound and complex changes in the domestic and international development environment.

They called for stronger efforts to implement existing policies and the prompt introduction of additional practical and effective policy measures to promote a steady recovery in consumption.

They also stressed the need to focus on developing new quality productive forces and to accelerate the development of new forms of the intelligent economy.

Advanced manufacturing should play its role as a key pillar of economic growth, supported by innovative financial services and an optimized investment and financing structure for high-tech industries.

These efforts would help foster positive interaction between capital markets and industrial development, they added.

Participants further called for accelerating the development of intelligent networks for battery swapping and energy replenishment, strengthening energy and resource security, and firmly safeguarding national food security.

They also emphasized the need to plan additional policy instruments and practical measures with strong driving effects, and to take coordinated steps to promote the sustained, sound, and high-quality economic development.

Wang Guosheng, chairman of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting.
