The Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a consultation meeting on Sept 29 to discuss the protection and utilization of religious cultural relics in the Xizang autonomous region and the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.‌

Bater, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

The meeting participants noted that religious cultural relics in Xizang and Xinjiang are widely distributed and highly diverse, demonstrating the outstanding unity and inclusiveness of Chinese civilization and carrying important historical value and contemporary significance.

The participants said that all local authorities and relevant departments have earnestly advanced the implementation of relevant work, constantly optimized institutional design, and strengthened legal protections, ensuring the effective protection and utilization of religious cultural relics in Xizang and Xinjiang.

Efforts should be made to guide people of all ethnic groups to deeply recognize the historic achievements made in various undertakings in Xizang and Xinjiang, especially in the protection and utilization of religious cultural relics, the participants noted.

It is essential to study and implement the Law on Promoting Ethnic Unity and Progress, and focus on fostering a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, they said.

Efforts are needed to strengthen the scientific protection, research, and interpretation of religious cultural relics in Xizang and Xinjiang, so as to enhance popular support for safeguarding national unity and opposing ethnic separatism, they pointed out.‌

Additionally, it is necessary to leverage the role of the CPPCC to conduct in-depth surveys and research, and participate in consultations and deliberations on State affairs, they said. By doing so, more valuable opinions and suggestions can be offered on the protection and utilization of religious cultural relics in these two regions, they added.

Jiang Jianguo, vice-chairman of the Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a speech at the meeting, which was presided over by Zhang Yijiong, chairman of the Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs.
