The General Office of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a meeting in Zhuhai, South China's Guangdong province, on Oct 10 to brief CPPCC National Committee members from Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions on the guiding principles of the 18th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th CPPCC National Committee.
Han Jianhua, deputy secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the meeting and gave a briefing.
The meeting conveyed the key points of a speech delivered by Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, at the closing meeting of the Standing Committee session. It also outlined the key takeaways from a report delivered by He Lifeng, vice-premier of the State Council, at the opening meeting, as well as suggestions and recommendations made by Standing Committee members on ensuring and improving people's livelihoods and advancing common prosperity for all.
Han called on CPPCC National Committee members from Hong Kong and Macao to study and implement the guiding principles of the session, better fulfill their roles in both proposing policy recommendations for the overall development of the country and safeguarding the prosperity and stability of the two regions, and support further efforts to improve people's livelihoods in the regions.
He urged them to remain committed to serving the people through their duty performance, fully support the governments of the two special administrative regions in developing their economies and improving people's livelihoods, and work together to turn development plans into tangible results.
Han also encouraged the members to take the initiative to shoulder their responsibilities, base their work on the realities of Hong Kong and Macao, and respond to public concerns.
He called on them to do more to understand people's needs, address their difficulties and deliver tangible benefits.
He further urged them to draw on their professional expertise and social influence to identify areas where the needs of the country align with the strengths of Hong Kong and Macao, helping the regions and the Chinese mainland reinforce each other's strengths and achieve mutually beneficial outcomes in improving people's livelihoods and advancing the country's overall development.
At the meeting, Han presented letters of congratulations on behalf of the General Office of the CPPCC National Committee to 17 members who received honors and were appointed Justices of the Peace by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government in 2026.
The meeting was chaired by the head of the Office of the Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the CPPCC National Committee. More than 140 CPPCC National Committee members from Hong Kong and Macao attended the meeting.
