This year marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 90th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army's Long March.

To vigorously promote the great founding spirit of the Party and the great Long March spirit, put into practice the people-oriented approach that the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) adheres to, and constantly advance the "Serving the People" initiative for CPPCC members to perform their duties, the Committee on Culture, Historical Data and Studies of the CPPCC National Committee held its 10th culture and history lecture in Beijing on Sept 29.

Shao Hong and Jiang Xinzhi, vice-chairmen of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the lecture.

Liu Xiaowei, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and vice-dean of the College of Military Culture of the People's Liberation Army National Defense University, delivered a special lecture titled "Art, Literature and Legacy of the Long March Spirit".

Liu presented a highly engaging lecture with rich historical materials and a unique perspective, covering three aspects: the overall landscape of art and literature during the Long March, artistic creation in the Long March’s brutal battles, and legacy of the Long March spirit.

Participants noted that the Long March spirit is an integral part of the spiritual legacy of the Chinese Communists and a precious spiritual asset of the Party.

It is crucial to consolidate the foundation of faith and stay true to the original aspiration of literary and artistic work in inheriting the Red legacy, so as to ensure that artistic practices are always guided by firm faith, they said.

It is necessary to maintain a people-oriented approach to artistic creation and align closely with the requirements for building a strong cultural nation outlined in the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), they noted.

By deeply engaging with real life to inspire creation, and prioritizing quality improvement in literary and artistic creation, artists should uphold fundamental principles, break new ground, and act as inheritors and pioneers of Red literature and art, injecting fresh vitality into the Long March spirit, they added.

Li Yi, vice-chairman of the Committee on Culture, Historical Data and Studies of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the lecture.
