BEIJING -- Wang Huning, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, on Thursday urged CPPCC members to fulfill their responsibilities and play their role in line with the central tasks of the Party and the country.

Wang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks when presiding over a meeting of the Chairperson's Council of the CPPCC National Committee.

He urged CPPCC members to advise on key issues, including expanding and strengthening advanced manufacturing, enhancing self-reliance of industrial and supply chains, and developing advanced manufacturing clusters.

Wang also told CPPCC members to conduct research and offer more valuable policy recommendations on agricultural development and agricultural and rural modernization.

He called on CPPCC members to pool their wisdom on issues of developing education that meets people's expectations and promoting the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent.

Wang also called for proposals that are forward-looking, innovative and practical on optimizing the overall layout of basic research, strengthening the ranks of basic research personnel, improving support for basic research, and expanding international cooperation in the field.

The meeting reviewed and approved a draft agenda and schedule for the 19th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC, scheduled for early November.
