The 2026 China Teacher Development Forum, held to celebrate the 42nd Teachers' Day in China, took place at Fujian Normal University in Fuzhou, East China's Fujian province, from Sept 3 to 4.

China's Teachers' Day falls on Sept 10.

Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD), attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.

On behalf of the CAPD Central Committee, Zhu extended greetings and respect to teachers across the country. He noted that the CAPD is a political party participating in the administration of State affairs under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), with education, culture, publishing and media as its main areas of focus, and has always regarded serving the development of national education as its mission.

Since Teachers' Day was established in 1985, the CAPD Central Committee and its local organizations have held various activities every year to celebrate the occasion. The CAPD Central Committee has been hosting the China Teacher Development Forum since 2007, closely integrating Teachers' Day celebrations with its role in participating in the administration of State affairs.

Zhu called on participants to focus on key tasks in developing the teaching workforce, address deep-seated issues in education reform, and engage in in-depth discussions and exchanges to jointly explore ways to advance education. He also called for promoting a culture of respecting teachers and valuing education, actively offering suggestions for national education policymaking, and contributing to efforts to build China into a leading country in education.

He expressed hope that all sectors of society would continue to support and engage in the CAPD's efforts to participate in the deliberation and administration of State affairs, and continue to support CAPD members in their work and development in the field of education, so as to work together to make new and greater contributions to building a strong nation and advancing national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization.

Du Jiangfeng, vice-minister of education, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. He Zhimin, vice-chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, presided over the ceremony. Lin Wenbin, vice-chairman of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPPCC and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee, attended the event, while Yan Keshi, vice-chairman of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CPPCC and chairman of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the CAPD, delivered a speech.

Hosted by the CAPD Central Committee, the forum brought together experts and scholars from across the country for discussions on the theme "Teachers and Teacher Education for Building China into a Leading Country in Education". The 2026 Ye Shengtao Teacher Award ceremony was also held during the forum.
