A team of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee members from the participating groups of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots and the All-China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese conducted an inspection tour to Southwest China's Yunnan province from Aug 31 to Sept 4.

The team focused on accelerating the development of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor by leveraging the strengths of overseas Chinese, and also carried out a democratic supervision inspection on promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.

Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League, led the inspection team.

The team visited the cities of Kunming and Lincang, as well as Dali Bai autonomous prefecture, where they held discussions with officials from relevant provincial and municipal departments, people at the grassroots level, and representatives of enterprises established by overseas Chinese and people from Taiwan, and listened extensively to their opinions and suggestions. During the inspection tour, the team also visited Yunnan Open University.

The team noted that Yunnan has both distinctive strengths and innovative approaches in rallying the support and strength of overseas Chinese and accelerating the development of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, and has achieved positive results through solid efforts.

The team stressed the need to leverage relevant parties' respective strengths and build synergy in implementing the key tasks set out in the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, particularly in accelerating the development of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor. The team members called for using the corridor as a driver to steadily expand institutional opening-up, consolidate the outcomes of "small yet smart" projects, and enhance development capacity through opening-up along the border, so as to promote prosperity in border areas and pursue shared development with neighboring countries.

The CPPCC should fully leverage its strengths, rally the support of the people, build greater consensus, and pool wisdom and strength for advancing Chinese modernization, they said.

Xu Yousheng and Qiu Hong, vice-chairpersons of the Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the CPPCC National Committee, and other CPPCC National Committee members participated in the inspection. Liu Xiaokai, chairman of the Yunnan Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, participated in relevant activities.
