Bater, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team to Northeast China's Heilongjiang province from Aug 31 to Sept 4, to conduct a survey on the study and implementation of the Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law.

The team visited villages, communities, schools, museums, cultural venues and religious activity sites in the Greater Hinggan Mountains area, and the cities of Heihe and Qiqihar. During the visits, the team members learned about local practices and held discussions with local officials and residents.

The team noted that the Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law  advances the law-based governance of ethnic affairs and brings the fostering of a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation and the building of the Chinese nation as one single community into the country's legal framework. The law conforms to the course of history and the trend of the times, and reflects the fundamental and overall interests of the Chinese nation. It has received broad recognition and firm support from people of all ethnic groups, the team members said. Heilongjiang province has made solid efforts to promote study and public awareness of the law and formulated plans for its implementation, achieving positive results, they said.

The team called for efforts to conduct research, consultations and deliberations with focus on key and challenging issues in public awareness and implementation of the law, and put forward more valuable suggestions. They stressed that the CPPCC should give full play to its role as a specialized consultative body, promote high-quality development of ethnic affairs in the new era under the rule of law, and build broad consensus and pool strength to unite the Chinese nation as one family and work together to fulfill the Chinese Dream.

Wang Guanghua and Benba Zhaxi, vice-chairpersons of the Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, Yang Guangyue, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, along with other CPPCC National Committee members, participated in the survey.
