He Baoxiang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, led a team of non-Communist Party of China members of the CPPCC National Committee to the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region from Aug 17 to 20 to survey efforts to advance innovation in grassroots social governance in border areas.

The team visited Urumqi, Bayingolin Mongolian autonomous prefecture and Aksu, where they inspected the Xinjiang intangible cultural heritage museum, two ethnic villages, the social governance center and Xingfu community in Kuqa city, a study and research base in Baicheng county, and a border police station in Wensu county, learning about innovative approaches to grassroots social governance. They also visited the Xinjiang Arts Theater for study and research and carried out a public service activity as part of the CPPCC National Committee's "serving the people" initiative.

The team members stressed the need to improve grassroots social governance systems and approaches and advance the modernization of grassroots governance systems and capacity in border areas. They called for efforts to pursue the goal of lasting social stability and security, consolidate the sense of community for the Chinese nation, and implement the relevant tasks set out in the outline of the15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) for modernizing social governance.

Wang Ercheng and Liu Xiaomei, vice-chairpersons of the Committee on Social and Legal Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, and several CPPCC National Committee members participated in the survey.
