A team of non-CPC members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee visited Southwest China's Xizang autonomous region from July 20 to 24, where they surveyed local efforts in ecological conservation and restoration.

The team, led by Shen Yueyue, vice-chairperson of the CPPCC National Committee, visited ecological monitoring stations, research institutes, ecological conservation and restoration projects, and major construction projects in Nyingchi, Lhasa and Shannan.

During the survey, Piao Shilong, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, carried out an event under the "serving the people" initiative at the Xizang Academy of Agricultural and Animal Husbandry Sciences.

The team noted that officials and the people of all ethnic groups in Xizang have thoroughly implemented the Party's governance strategy for the region, making solid strides in building a new modern socialist Xizang and steadily enhancing people's sense of gain, happiness, and security.

They held that it is essential to steadfastly pursue ecological conservation and green development, and work toward the goal of building the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau into a model of ecological civilization, while delivering on the tasks set out in the outline of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30).

They called for prioritizing natural restoration to enhance ecosystem stability and sustainability, strengthening scientific and technological support to enhance capability for early warning of and response to ecological risks, and enhancing coordination across different levels and departments to improve the mechanism for joint construction, joint governance, and benefit-sharing.

They also stressed the need to leverage the CPPCC's role to strengthen ideological and political guidance, communicate the achievements in ecological progress, and pool efforts to build a solid ecological security barrier on the plateau.
