Wang Yong, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team of non-CPC members on a survey tour in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region from July 20 to 24.

The team visited key enterprises, industrial parks, border ports, villages and communities to learn about industrial development, urban construction and grassroots governance. They held in-depth discussions with local officials and residents and listened to their views and suggestions.

The team recognized Xinjiang's efforts in pursuing high-quality development tailored to local conditions, saying that the region has leveraged its advantages as a core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt and is working to build a border region characterized by economic prosperity, social stability, ethnic unity, and solid border defense.

Border town development, they said, is a key lever for revitalizing border areas and strengthening national security.

The team noted that in recent years, Xinjiang has coordinated development and security, fostered distinctive border industries, improved infrastructure and public services, and steadily enhanced people's wellbeing, reinforcing the foundation for lasting stability and high-quality development in the region.

The team also called on the CPPCC to leverage its role as a specialized consultative body, focus on border town development and opening-up, and contribute wisdom and strength to boosting high-quality growth.
