The Hainan event of the 2026 Cross-Strait Marine Culture Exchange Platform, hosted by the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSL) and organized by the TDSL Hainan Provincial Committee, opened in Haikou, capital of South China’s Hainan province, on July 16.
Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairwoman of the TDSL Central Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
Su said the Cross-Strait Marine Culture Exchange Platform is a signature initiative established by the TDSL Central Committee to promote exchanges between compatriots across the Taiwan Strait. This year's Hainan event incorporates the long-running Cross-Strait Leisure Agriculture Forum, now in its 16th edition, alongside ceramic art exchanges and study visits on agriculture, fisheries and marine industries. The event aims to help compatriots on both sides of the Strait seize development opportunities, deepen exchanges and cooperation, and pursue common development.
Su expressed hope that compatriots across the Strait will work together to advance industrial development and achieve shared prosperity, seize the opportunities presented by China’s efforts to build itself into a strong agricultural and maritime country during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) period, and actively participate in the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port.
She also called for closer cooperation in areas such as leisure agriculture, fisheries and marine science and technology, which embody the Chinese nation's agricultural and maritime traditions. Through collaboration, investment and entrepreneurship, she said, compatriots on both sides of the Strait can deepen mutual understanding, appreciate the opportunities created by national development, and forge a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation.
Su further expressed hope that compatriots across the Strait will work in unity toward national rejuvenation by aligning their personal aspirations with the country's development and contributing to a new chapter in the history of the Chinese nation.
Among those attending the opening ceremony were Liu Xiaoming, governor of Hainan province; Andrew Hsia, former vice-chairman of the Chinese Kuomintang party and president of the Strait Economic and Cultural Interchange Association; Zheng Jianmin, Kong Lingzhi and Fu Zhiguan, vice-chairpersons of the TDSL Central Committee; and Yin Libo, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Hainan Provincial Committee.
