CPPCC holds lecture on structural innovations of FAST

The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a science lecture on July 2, at which Fan Feng, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and vice-president of Harbin Institute of Technology, delivered a report on structural innovations of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST).

Shen Yueyue and Wang Dongfeng, vice-chairpersons of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the event.

Fan spoke about the research background, overall design of the reflector structure, and tests of key technologies and models behind the FAST, a major national scientific infrastructure project. He recounted how the research team tackled technological challenges and created an engineering marvel, encouraging young people to embrace science, commit themselves to basic research, and contribute their vitality to achieving high-level technological self-reliance and strength and advancing Chinese modernization.

About 500 people attended, including CPPCC National Committee members, university students and professionals in the science and technology sector.
