BEIJING -- The Standing Committee of the 14th Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee opened its 17th session on Tuesday under the theme of pursuing high-quality development.

Wang Huning, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, presided over the meeting.

Noting that the promotion of high-quality development is the main focus in economic and social development in the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-2030), Wang called on members of the standing committee to contribute their insightful views and suggestions in support of high-quality development, so as to advance Chinese modernization.

Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, was invited to attend the meeting and deliver a report.

Ding stressed the importance of giving top priority to development and unswervingly promoting high-quality development on the new journey. He also underlined the necessity to foster new quality productive forces in line with local conditions, as well as to deepen reforms and expand high-standard opening up.
