A meeting was held on June 12 at the Shanghai Exhibition Centre to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Jiusan Society. Shao Hong, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.

On behalf of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, Shao extended warm congratulations to the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Jiusan Society. He noted that the Shanghai committee, the earliest established local committee of the Society, has steadfastly followed the socialist path of political development with Chinese characteristics and vigorously upheld the fine traditions of patriotism, democracy and science.

Rallying the Jiusan Society's organizations at all levels in Shanghai and their members, the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Jiusan Society has contributed significantly to Shanghai's reform, opening-up, development and stability, Shao said.

Shao pointed out that the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Jiusan Society has 18 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, over 150 national-level high-caliber professionals and thousands of senior experts, making it the provincial-level committee with the largest membership and leading quality among all local organizations. He congratulated the Shanghai Municipal Committee on its achievements and progress.

Shao expressed hope that the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Jiusan Society would closely align their work with major national strategic deployments, enhance its performance capacity and demonstrate its commitment to serving high-quality development. It should also stay attuned to the requirements of the new era and take the lead in strengthening self-development, he said.
