The United Front Work Department (UFWD) of the CPC Central Committee held a briefing in Beijing on June 9 on democratic supervision over ecological conservation and high-quality development in the Yellow River Basin.

Wang Guangqian, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League (CDL), delivered a special tutorial report. Ma Lihuai, deputy head of the UFWD, presided over and addressed the meeting.

The meeting urged the central committees of the non-CPC parties and personages without party affiliation to implement the arrangements made at the earlier meeting on reviewing democratic supervision over the Yangtze River's eco-environmental protection and initiating similar work for the Yellow River Basin. It called for aligning thoughts and actions with the CPC Central Committee's decisions, focusing on overarching, strategic and forward-looking issues and deep-seated contradictions concerning the basin, and carrying out specialized oversight with a correct understanding of governance performance and a strong sense of responsibility.

In this way, they can better help regions and river basins they are paired with resolve problems and improve work, demonstrate the new image of China's socialist participating parties and other political participants, enhance the efficacy of China's new type of political party system, and contribute more to fulfilling the economic and social development goals in the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30) and advancing Chinese modernization, according to the meeting.

Participating in the meeting were vice-chairpersons of the central committees of the non-CPC parties, heads of the special oversight task force, Beijing-based expert group members, officials from relevant departments and representatives of personages without party affiliation, as well as officials from related UFWD departments.
