Wu Weihua, chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, led a team to Bijie, Guizhou province, from May 25 to 27, where they conducted a survey on the pairing assistance programs between the Jiusan Society and Bijie, and the future strategies for further raising rural social security standards.

The team visited several sites across Qixingguan district and Weining Yi, Hui, and Miao autonomous county, including an assistance and protection center for youths, a subdistrict community health service center, a maternal and child health hospital, a senior care facility and Weining Jiusan Middle School.

Their survey focused on the assistance and protection of the rights and interests of minors, resettlement and livelihood support for those relocated from poverty-stricken areas, access to medical services and grassroots elderly care. The team also assessed the outcomes and challenges of ongoing assistance initiatives.

Wu emphasized that as a traditional agricultural country, China attaches great significance to rural social security. He said the survey found that Guizhou has developed many effective practices in advancing the high-quality development of rural social security. However, as a less-developed province in western China, it still faces practical challenges such as generally low level of social security and weak grassroots service capacity, he said.

The Jiusan Society Central Committee will continue to conduct in-depth surveys on this subject, aiming to form pragmatic and effective policy recommendations to contribute intellectual strength to the high-quality development of China's rural social security, Wu said.

Addressing the long-standing pairing assistance relationship between the Jiusan Society and Weining, Wu noted that for over three decades, the Jiusan Society Central Committee has leveraged the Society's strengths in the science and technology sector, pooling high-quality internal and external resources to comprehensively support Weining's development. Through channels such as introducing advanced technologies, dispatching cadres, offering policy advice and mobilizing funding, the Society has provided sustained and heartfelt assistance.

Wu said that the Jiusan Society Central Committee will further give full play its advantages to advance the "region plus sector" model of targeted assistance, with focus on rural vitalization, education and healthcare, industrial development and eco-environmental protection. These efforts aim to support Bijie in building a demonstration zone for implementing the new development philosophy and to contribute to the economic and social development of Guizhou province, Wu said.

During the visit, Jiusan Society organizations of Zhejiang, Guangdong and Jiangsu provinces donated supplies and launched specific assistance programs in Weining. Liu Zhengkui and Liu Xiaomei, vice-chairpersons of the Jiusan Society Central Committee, joined the survey.
