On May 26, the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a consultation meeting focused on the handling of a key proposal on including the protection of workers' rights and interests in the statutory scope of procuratorial public interest litigation.

Representatives of the proposal's sponsors, officials from relevant government agencies responsible for handling the proposal, CPPCC members from the All-China Federation of Trade Unions sector and representatives of workers gathered at the meeting to engage in in-depth discussion.

He Baoxiang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, attended and addressed the gathering.

Participants agreed on the need to faithfully implement the decisions and deployments of the CPC Central Committee, adhere to a people-centered philosophy, refine relevant policies and institutional frameworks and strengthen interdepartmental coordination to protect workers' rights and interests.

They called for improving the solicitation and handling of proposals by creating platforms for effective communication between members who submit proposals and the agencies responsible for handling them. This would raise the quality of the proposals and the effectiveness of their handling, ensuring that the outcomes are translated into tangible improvements in national governance, they said.

The meeting also underscored the importance of leveraging the distinctive strengths of the trade union sector — organizing in-depth research, broadening channels for engaging with workers, and working to resolve pressing concerns — so as to enhance the effectiveness of members' performance of their duties.
