Members of the Chairperson's Council of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) visited the China National Archives of Publications and Culture on May 26 for studies and a survey. Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the event.

The council members visited the National Study, the Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Publication and Cultural Articles, and an exhibition on fine contemporary Chinese publications and characteristic versions. They listened to briefings on the construction and development of the archives and learned about the preservation of precious publications.

After the visit, the council members had discussions with participating CPPCC members and leading officials of the China National Archives of Publications and Culture. They agreed that, since the 18th CPC National Congress, solid strides have been made in building a strong socialist culture in China and that remarkable achievements have been made in the study of Chinese civilization and the inheritance and development of fine traditional Chinese culture.

The participants vowed to stay committed to integrating the basic tenets of Marxism with China's specific realities and with its fine traditional culture. They said they will uphold fundamental principles and break new ground while promoting the prosperity and revitalization of Chinese culture. They called for strengthening the collection of historical classics, making full use of modern technological means in their conservation, restoration and comprehensive utilization, producing high-quality research findings, and giving better play to the role of historical classics and versions in drawing lessons from history and enlightening future generations.

Efforts should be made to protect and study the fine classics of all ethnic groups, demonstrate the unity and convergence of the Chinese civilization featuring diversity in unity, enhance cultural identity and cultural confidence, forge a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation, and build the common spiritual home of the Chinese nation, they said. They suggested the CPPCC conduct in-depth research and offer advice on developing socialist culture with Chinese characteristics for a new era, promoting systematic protection of cultural heritage and enhancing the reach and appeal of Chinese civilization.

They said that CPPCC members, especially those from the sectors of literature and arts, as well as press and publications, should leverage their professional strengths to play a greater role in the creative transformation and innovative development of fine traditional Chinese culture.

Li Shulei, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, together with vice-chairpersons of the CPPCC National Committee Hu Chunhua, Bater, Gao Yunlong, Xian Hui, Wang Dongfeng, Jiang Xinzhi, Wang Guangqian and Yang Zhen participated in the event.
