Yang Zhen, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, led a team of CPPCC members to Chongqing from May 19 to 22. They conducted a supervision-oriented survey on the handling of a key proposal on elevating the convenience and international reach of inbound tourism services.

The team members visited customs facilities, the general station of immigration inspection, tourist attractions, hotels, cultural and museum institutions, hospitals and commercial districts. They held face-to-face discussions with local officials, enterprise executives, medical professionals and foreign tourists to learn about the city's exploratory practices to facilitate  inbound travel. They also convened a symposium to hear opinions and suggestions.

The team members called for a deep appreciation of the strategic significance of advancing high-quality inbound tourism, and a clear grasp of the emerging trends in the inbound tourism market, so as to adopt multipronged measures to enhance its convenience and international appeal.

They urged expanding opening-up, optimizing the policy environment, improving service quality and building an international-standard service system. They also called for promoting mutual learning between civilizations to amplify the global reach of Chinese culture and pursuing innovation while upholding fundamental principles to tap into new tourism resources.

They said that the CPPCC should focus research on key constraints hindering inbound tourism development, put forward pragmatic and effective policy recommendations, and build consensus to promote high-quality development of inbound tourism during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30).
