The Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSL) Central Committee convened a meeting in Xi'an, Shaanxi province, on May 21 to conclude its democratic oversight on ecological conservation of the Yangtze River and launch a new round of oversight focusing on ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin.

Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairwoman of the TDSL Central Committee, attended and addressed the meeting.

Su said that it is vital to carry out the new round of five-year democratic oversight with high standards. She stressed the need to keep in mind the country's most fundamental interests and anchor oversight work within the broader context of Chinese modernization. Following the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), CPPCC members should uphold political commitment and pursue pragmatic results throughout the entire process of Yellow River protection, she said.

Su called on members to shoulder major responsibilities and improve the quality of their work within the framework of ecological conservation and coordinated regional development. She called for integrating special democratic oversight with the TDSL's thematic education campaign on serving the public and upholding a sound view of governance performance to ensure deeper research, higher-quality recommendations, and more effective oversight.

She highlighted the need for pragmatic action, with a clear focus on supporting development through oversight and conducting oversight in support of development. These efforts aim to boost ecological progress and high-quality growth in Shaanxi, write a new chapter in protecting the mother river of the Chinese nation, and demonstrate a renewed commitment to contributing to Chinese modernization, Su said.

Kong Lingzhi, vice-chairman of the TDSL Central Committee, summarized the league's five-year achievements in democratic oversight of Yangtze River ecological conservation and explained the implementation plan for the TDSL Central Committee's democratic oversight on ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin.

Dai Binbin, vice-governor of Shaanxi province, briefed participants of the meeting on the province's progress in the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. Li Mingyuan, vice-chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the CPPCC and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee, presided over the meeting and delivered a statement of commitment. Fu Zhiguan, vice-chairman of the TDSL Central Committee, was also present.
