Shen Yueyue, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a research team to Shanxi province from May 13 to 15 for a survey on adapting to demographic structural changes and optimizing resource allocation in key areas.

The team visited various educational institutions, medical facilities, elderly care institutions, communities and rural areas in Taiyuan and Xinzhou. They held symposiums to review how Shanxi is adapting to demographic shifts and optimizing resource allocation in key sectors such as education, healthcare, old-age insurance, infrastructure and regional population distribution. While learning about difficulties and effective local practices and experiences, the team also engaged in face-to-face exchanges with grassroots officials and residents to extensively solicit opinions and suggestions.

The team members called for anchoring the strategic goal of supporting Chinese modernization with high-quality population development and adhering to the people-centered development philosophy. Investments in physical assets and human capital must be closely integrated, and the scientific allocation and efficient, intensive utilization of various resources should be promoted, they said. In addition, they stressed that due emphasis should be placed on ensuring and improving public well-being through development to continuously realize the people's aspiration for a better life.

The team members said that they would maintain a goal-oriented and problem-solving approach, focusing on key issues and difficulties in adapting to demographic structural changes and optimizing resource allocation in key areas. They pledged to conduct in-depth surveys, deepen research and engage in substantive consultations to formulate targeted, actionable and instructive suggestions to facilitate the implementation of the CPC Central Committee's decisions and deployments. In line with the role of the CPPCC as a specialized consultative body, the team aims to leverage the advantages of the CPPCC, practice a correct view of governance performance, publicize the task deployments of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), strengthen ideological and political guidance, build broad consensus, and contribute wisdom and strength to supporting Chinese modernization with high-quality population development.
