The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a symposium on April 20 to review and analyze China's macroeconomic situation in the first quarter of the year. Wang Yong, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, addressed the meeting.

At the gathering, an in-depth analysis and assessment of the current macroeconomic situation from various perspectives was conducted and policy recommendations on further consolidating and enhancing the positive momentum of economic growth were provided.

Officials from the National Bureau of Statistics briefed participants on the country's economic performance in the first quarter. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) provided a written report on relevant information at the meeting.

Eleven CPPCC National Committee members delivered speeches. They noted that China's economy showed continued recovery and steady improvement in the first quarter, despite pressures, signaling a strong start.

They also suggested that efforts should be made to closely focus on the strategic goals and key tasks for economic and social development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), better coordinate domestic and international situations, further enhance the forward-looking and coordinating role of macro policies, and implement more proactive fiscal policies.

It is important, they said, to stabilize social investment expectations, optimize the layout of industrial investment, and actively expand effective investment. They also stressed the need to promote the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation, cultivate and strengthen emerging industries and future industries, and accelerate the development of new quality productive forces.

The participants also urged strengthening bottom-line thinking, adhering to diversified development approach, further advancing energy security and ensuring the security and stability of the country's industrial and supply chains, so as to ensure food security, address the weaknesses and shortcomings in modern agriculture, and effectively improve the quality and efficiency of agriculture.

Wang Guosheng, chairperson of the Committee on Economic Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting. Vice-chairpersons of the committee and some of its members, as well as representatives from the NDRC, attended the meeting and engaged in exchanges.
