On April 20, members of the Chairperson's Council of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) surveyed some organizations in the natural resources sector. Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the event.
The members of the Chairperson's Council visited an exhibition on the achievements in satellite application technology for natural resources, watched a demonstration of their practical applications, listened to introductions on work related to natural resources management and territorial spatial planning, and learned about how satellite remote sensing technology serves the development and protection of natural resources and the prevention and control of geological disasters.
After the visit, they engaged in discussions and exchanges with CPPCC National Committee members participating in the survey, as well as leading officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources and related units.
The Chairperson's Council members said that it is necessary to fully, accurately, and comprehensively implement the new development philosophy. Based on natural resource endowments and adhering to the principle of prioritizing conservation, protection, and natural restoration, it is essential to steadfastly follow the path of civilized development featuring increased production, prosperous living, and a sound ecosystem, and to build Chinese-style modernization where humanity and nature coexist in harmony, they said.
They urged efforts to strengthen technological research, enhance the supporting role of modern information technologies such as satellite remote sensing, optimize the spatial development pattern of the national territory, improve the level of resource development and protection, and enhance the comprehensive capacity of preventing natural disasters, so as to achieve coordinated development of economy and society with population, resources and the environment.
According to the members of the Chairperson's Council, the CPPCC should conduct in-depth surveys and offer suggestions on issues such as the high-level protection and efficient utilization of natural resources, and the prevention and control of ecological and environmental security risks during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30). CPPCC members, especially those from the environment and resources, as well as science and technology sectors, should leverage their strengths and advantages to contribute wisdom and strength to promoting green and low-carbon development and building a beautiful China, they said.
Vice-chairpersons of the CPPCC National Committee Hu Chunhua, Shen Yueyue, Wang Yong, Bater, Su Hui, Mu Hong, Wang Dongfeng, Jiang Zuojun and Yang Zhen participated in the event.
Leading officials from the General Office and the special committees of the CPPCC National Committee also participated.
