A team from the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) conducted a survey from March 30 to April 3 in Sichuan province. The survey focused on advancing the integrated development of education, science and technology, and talent to build education, science and talent centers with global influence.
The team was led by Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy.
The team went to the cities of Chengdu, Deyang and Mianyang, where they visited universities, scientific research institutions, industrial parks and technology enterprises. They gained a detailed understanding of the specific measures, achievements and existing problems in areas such as the transformation of scientific and technological achievements of universities, the collaborative cultivation of professionals through the integration of technological innovation and industrial development, and the development of industry-academia-research-application consortium. The team also engaged in in-depth exchanges with leading officials of related government departments and institutions, extensively soliciting opinions and suggestions from various parties.
Noting that education, science and technology, and professionals are fundamental and strategic supports for Chinese modernization, the team members said it is essential to thoroughly implement the strategies of invigorating the country through science and education, strengthening the nation through cultivation of professionals and driving development through innovation, and to coordinate and advance the integrated reform of the systems and mechanisms for education, science and technology, and professional development.
With strength in economy, science and technology, and professional cultivation, Sichuan has made the integrated development of these areas a key focus of its modernization drive, the team members noted. Taking the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing regional science and technology innovation center as an opportunity and focusing on serving the nation's goal of achieving greater self-reliance and strength in high-level science and technology, Sichuan has made specific arrangements and gained valuable experiences, they pointed out.
The team members stated that it is necessary to fully leverage the CPPCC's role as a specialized consultative body. It should present forward-looking, targeted, and actionable measures and suggestions in areas such as establishing and improving coordination mechanisms for the integrated advancement of education, science and technology, and cultivation of professionals, promoting positive interaction between independent technological innovation and professional cultivation, and smoothing the channels for exchanges of professionals among universities, research institutions and enterprises, they said. Through such efforts, the CPPCC will be able to contribute wisdom and strength to accelerating self-reliance and strength in high-level science and technology and leading the development of new quality productive forces.
A dozen CPPCC National Committee members participated in the research tour. Tian Xiangli, chairperson of the CPPCC Sichuan Provincial Committee, and Xu Weilin, vice-chairperson of the CPPCC Sichuan Provincial Committee, also participated in the survey.
