Pan Yue, vice-chairman of the Committee on Culture, Historical Data and Studies of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a delegation of non-CPC members of the committee to Shanxi province from March 23 to 27 to conduct a survey. The delegation, which surveyed strengthening the effective protection and dynamic inheritance of famous historical and cultural cities, blocks, villages and towns, also supervised the implementation of related proposals.

They visited more than 10 sites in the cities of Jinzhong and Changzhi, held discussions with local representatives to gain an in-depth understanding of the current status of historical and cultural heritage protection and measures for preservation and utilization, as well as to widely solicit opinions and suggestions.

The delegation also organized a book donation initiative and a temporary Party branch activity. The delegation recognized that Shanxi, the province richest in above-ground cultural relics in China, has steadily advanced the effective protection and dynamic inheritance of its historical and cultural assets, with notable achievements across various endeavors.

Based on the CPPCC's role as a specialized consultative body and in line with the arrangements of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), they emphasized the need to strengthen cultural heritage protection and inheritance. The CPPCC should fully leverage its role by offering valuable and substantive recommendations on reinforcing institutional constraints for cultural heritage protection, innovating preservation mechanisms, promoting adaptive reuse, strengthening support in technology, talent and funding, and tightening supervision, inspection, and evaluation, they said.
