On March 23, members of the Chairperson's Council of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) surveyed the National Library of China in Beijing. Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the event.
The members of the Chairperson's Council visited exhibitions including the Exhibition of Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture Classics[L1] , the Exhibition on the Return and Rescue of the Yongle Encyclopedia[L2] and the Exhibition of Academies in Ancient Texts. They were briefed on the exhibition concepts, the collection and preservation of exhibits, and innovations in display design. They also learned about the recovery processes and contemporary preservation achievements of key displayed items.
After the tour, the members held discussions with participating CPPCC members, as well as officials from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the National Library of China. It was unanimously recognized that the CPC Central Committee has always placed cultural advancement in a prominent position in national governance. Significant efforts have been made to promote the creative transformation and innovative development of China's fine traditional culture, achieving remarkable results in the inheritance, protection, utilization and development of ancient texts, they noted.
The participants spoke of the need to steadfastly follow the path of socialist cultural development with Chinese characteristics, enhance cultural confidence and strength, and create new glories for socialist culture. It is essential, they said, to make the past serve the present, foster innovation through continuity, improve the preservation of ancient texts, and delve into the core ideas and concepts of fine traditional Chinese culture embodied in ancient texts, so as to better inherit the Chinese civilization.
The CPPCC should conduct in-depth research and offer suggestions on the goals and tasks for cultural development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30), the inheritance and development of fine traditional Chinese culture, strengthening the protection and transmission of cultural heritage, and advancing the national cultural digitalization, the members emphasized. They added that CPPCC members, especially those from the sectors of literature and arts, social sciences, and press and publications, should leverage their professional expertise, root themselves in the fertile soil of Chinese culture, and contribute their wisdom and strength to boosting the development of socialist culture.
Also participating in the survey were Li Shulei, a member of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, and vice-chairpersons of the CPPCC National Committee Hu Chunhua, Shen Yueyue, Su Hui, Shao Hong, Gao Yunlong, Xian Hui, Wang Dongfeng, Jiang Xinzhi and Zhu Yongxin.
Officials from the General Office and relevant special committees of the CPPCC National Committee also attended the survey.
