On March 12, Shen Yueyue, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team of CPPCC National Committee members to survey the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) Research Institute.

The survey was conducted to prepare for the upcoming biweekly consultation symposium on advancing the development and utilization of marine energy resources and strengthening the protection and restoration of the ecological environment in key sea areas.

Shen and her delegation toured the institute's science and technology exhibition hall, where they gained a detailed understanding of the development and utilization of marine energy resources as well as related scientific and technological innovations. They also held discussions with executives and frontline researchers from CNOOC and the institute.

The CPPCC National Committee members noted that advancing the development and utilization of marine energy resources and protecting the marine ecological environment are crucial to the broader agenda of green development and to the overall undertaking of building China into a leading maritime and energy power.

They said that the marine ecology must be cherished as life itself. Based on the CPPCC's role as a specialized consultative body and in line with the arrangements of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), they emphasized the need to conduct in-depth consultation and deliberation, actively offer suggestions and proposals, and strive to present forward-looking, targeted and actionable opinions and recommendations. Through these efforts, they will pool collective strength and drive progress toward the sustainable development and utilization of marine energy resources, the enhancement of marine ecological conservation, and building China into a strong maritime nation.

The survey and exchanges were attended by Che Jun, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee's Committee on Population, Resources and Environment; Pan Ligang and Zhai Qing, vice-chairpersons of the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment; and CPPCC National Committee members Li Jinfa, He Guangshun, Wang Dongjin, Ou Qingping and Ge Quansheng.
