On Feb 27, the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSL) Central Committee held a news briefing in Beijing to introduce its proposal materials to be submitted to the fourth session of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Kong Lingzhi, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee and vice-chairman of the TDSL Central Committee, attended the event and delivered a speech.
On behalf of the TDSL Central Committee, Kong outlined the league’s performance in fulfilling its duties and its key tasks for 2026. He noted that 2026 marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the beginning of the 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026-30). The TDSL will serve the 15th Five-Year Plan through high-quality participation in State affairs, leverage its signature activities to promote cross-Strait integrated development, and shoulder responsibility in fostering a stronger sense of community for the Chinese nation among compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, he said.
According to the briefing, the TDSL Central Committee’s proposal materials are derived from first-hand outcomes of multilevel surveys conducted by the central committee, local organizations, and specialized committees. These materials focus on major national strategies such as building a strong country in science and technology and a maritime power, as well as issues concerning people’s livelihoods including education, healthcare and elderly care, cross-Strait integrated development, democratic oversight and social assistance.
