The Committee on Foreign Affairs of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its fourth plenary meeting in Beijing on Jan 28. The meeting reviewed the committee's work in 2025 and discussed plans for 2026. CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons Mu Hong and Jiang Zuojun addressed the meeting.
The meeting acknowledged the committee's work in 2025 in implementing the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the plenary sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and in following the work requirements of the CPPCC National Committee.
With strengthened ideological and political guidance, the committee conducted in-depth consultation and deliberation on advancing Chinese modernization, expanding high-level opening-up, and key and pressing issues facing the evolving international landscape, the meeting noted. The meeting also praised the committee’s high-level advice that contributed to the country’s high-quality development and facilitated the effective implementation of the important decisions and plans of the Party and the State.
The meeting emphasized that in 2026, the committee must continue to thoroughly study and implement the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, establish and practice a correct view on what it means to perform well, and closely align the committee’s efforts with the central tasks of the Party and the State.
The committee is expected to further leverage its foundational role as a specialized committee as well as its distinctive "foreign-related" characteristics, conduct in-depth consultation and deliberation on the formulation and implementation of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), and actively offer suggestions.
According to the meeting, the committee will coordinate and carry out work on public diplomacy, people-to-people diplomacy, and think-tank diplomacy, to achieve fruitful results in telling stories about China's people-centered democracy and serve the overall national diplomatic agenda. Through the efforts, the committee aims to translate the decisions and deployments of the CPC Central Committee into broad consensus and conscious actions across the entire society, while making positive contributions to uniting hearts, building consensus, and gathering wisdom and strength for advancing Chinese modernization, noted the meeting.
