On Jan 22, Shen Yueyue, vice-chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team of CPPCC National Committee members to visit the China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI). They held discussions on efforts to build a new power system.

The team learned about the situations of the State Key Laboratory of Power Grid Security, the State Key Laboratory of Renewable Energy Grid-Integration and the weather prediction center, and held a symposium with representatives from the State Grid Corporation of China, the CEPRI and the State Grid Energy Research Institute, as well as front-line researchers.

The visiting CPPCC National Committee members agreed that building a new power system is a crucial measure for achieving the carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals, promoting the comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, and safeguarding national energy security. It is essential to strengthen ideological and political guidance, actively disseminate policies and knowledge related to the new power system, and guide the entire society toward adopting green and low-carbon production methods and lifestyles, they noted. In doing so, they aim to contribute to building broad consensus and pooling efforts for establishing a new power system and a new energy system.

The members emphasized the need to fully leverage the CPPCC’s role as a special consultative body, align with the tasks outlined in the recommendations for the formulation of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), and take a problem-oriented approach. They urged concentration on addressing key, difficult, and bottleneck issues in building a new power system through in-depth research and substantive consultations, so as to put forward scientific, targeted, practical and effective suggestions, thereby contributing to high-quality economic and social development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period.
