The 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its 32nd briefing session on issues of major concern in Beijing on Jan 20, focusing on strengthening the governance of the online ecosystem and fostering a clean cyberspace.

Yang Zhen, vice-chairperson of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairperson of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, attended the session.

Niu Yibing, deputy head of the Cyberspace Administration of China, provided a briefing on the progress of related work, stating that in recent years, the administration has innovated measures, improved institutional norms, and strengthened collaborative efforts to enhance cyberspace governance, achieving positive results. In the next phase, the administration will work to make governance more forward-looking, targeted, and well-coordinated across different sectors, so as to foster a clean, positive, and uplifting online environment, Niu noted.

Tan Quan, assistant minister of public security, said that nationwide public security authorities have resolutely defended political and public security in cyberspace in 2025. Multiple measures have been implemented to safeguard the development of the digital economy, he said, adding that by strengthening bottom-line thinking, authorities have deepened the fight against online infiltration, subversion, terrorism, separatism and cult activities, and have cracked down heavily on telecom and online fraud crimes.

During the meeting, members of the CPPCC National Committee engaged in exchanges with officials from relevant departments on keeping minors safe online and making better use of new technologies such as artificial intelligence to combat cybercrime.
