The Committee on Agriculture and Rural Areas of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its fourth plenary meeting in Beijing on Jan 8.
The meeting focused on studying and implementing the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the Central Economic Work Conference, and the Central Rural Work Conference. It also summarized the work of the committee in 2025 and planned its work for 2026.
Hu Chunhua, vice-chairperson of the CPPCC National Committee, attended and addressed the meeting.
The meeting highlighted that, in 2025, the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Areas thoroughly studied and implemented the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and the plenary sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and played distinctive roles in comprehensively facilitating the high-quality development of the Party and the country's work concerning agriculture, rural areas, and farmers.
Looking ahead to 2026, the meeting stressed that the committee would leverage its foundational role in CPPCC work with a focus on the strategic goals of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) on agriculture and rural areas. Additionally, the committee would pool wisdom and propose suggestions on key areas such as improving the comprehensive agricultural production capacity, quality and efficiency, promoting the construction of livable, business-friendly and beautiful villages, and enhancing the effectiveness of policies for strengthening agriculture, benefiting farmers, and raising rural living standards.
