A conference was held in Beijing on Dec 9 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD).

Li Ganjie, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a congratulatory message on behalf of the CPC Central Committee.

In the congratulatory message, Li noted that in the past 80 years since its founding, the CAPD has always adhered to its original aspiration and made sustainable efforts to struggle together with the CPC, making important contributions to the causes of China's revolution, reform and development.

The history and efforts of the CAPD have demonstrated that, as a good policy recommender and helpful collaborator maintaining a deep friendship and close cooperation with the CPC through thick and thin, the CAPD has played an important role in advancing the country's tremendous transformation — from standing up and growing prosperous to becoming strong, and in achieving the new success of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, building China into a modern socialist country on all fronts, as well as promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, Li said.

Li also stated that the Recommendations of the CPC Central Committee for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) for Economic and Social Development, adopted at the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, emphasize adhering to and improving the system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the CPC's leadership, providing a broad platform for and injecting inexhaustible momentum into political parties so that they can fulfill their duties and play their roles.

Highlighting the need to focus on the new requirements on the new journey and in the new era, Li hoped that the CAPD can thoroughly study and implement the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress and plenary sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee.

The CAPD should actively fulfill its duties to contribute wisdom and strength to advancing Chinese modernization, and carry forward good traditions to build itself into a high-quality party participating in the administration of State affairs under socialism with Chinese characteristics.

Cai Dafeng, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, reviewed the glorious progress that the CAPD has made in the past 80 years since its founding, and called on all CAPD members to unite around the CPC Central Committee and make greater contributions to formulating and implementing the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) and advancing the efforts to build a strong country and achieve national rejuvenation with Chinese modernization.

Wu Weihua, vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee and chairman of the Jiu San Society Central Committee, delivered a congratulatory speech on behalf of the central committees of non-CPC parties as well as the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce.

Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and executive vice-chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, chaired the meeting.
