The China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) held a meeting on Dec 7 in Beijing to summarize its work in 2025, which was centered on reviewing the history of the CAPD.

Cai Dafeng, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and executive vice-chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, chaired the meeting.

Cai noted that as the year 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the CAPD's founding, the organization has launched a year-long initiative focused on work related to its organizational history. Studying and promoting the CAPD's history will enhance its members' understanding of the organization and their consensus on its history, consolidate the common ideological and political foundations, and strengthen their confidence in history and the country's political system, according to Cai.

To exert the educational value of the association's history, efforts should focus on strengthening history research capacity and reviewing the archival and writing work completed in 2025, Cai said. The research on the CAPD's history should be integrated with study of China's new political party system and with theoretical research on the development of participating political parties, he added.

Cai also called on improving the leadership over relevant affairs and training more professional personnel.

Cai underscored the referential meaning of history to current practices. The CAPD's history of self-development serves as a source where its members can learn wisdom and experience to enhance their capability to solve relevant issues, he said.

Cai also called on the CAPD's departments and their leading groups at all levels to use the association's historical materials as a fundamental basis and key reference for planning and decision-making.
