The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held a consultation symposium with members from the Taiwan Democratic Self-government League on Nov 28, focusing on scientifically treating tumors and advancing the Healthy China initiative.

Shen Yueyue and Wang Guangqian, vice-chairpersons of the National Committee of the CPPCC, attended the meeting.

Several CPPCC members and two experts delivered speeches on site or via video. Officials from the National Health Commission and the National Healthcare Security Administration gave briefings about tumor prevention and treatment, and held discussions with CPPCC members and experts.

The meeting noted that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012, the CPPCC National Committee has conducted surveys on strengthening primary-level medical and healthcare services, promoting the balanced allocation of high-quality medical resources, and facilitating the research, development and clinical application of innovative medicines and advanced medical devices.

Based on these surveys, the CPPCC National Committee has proposed a series of suggestions, including improving grassroots public health systems and medical insurance policy, sustainably promoting the building of national and regional medical centers, and advancing the research, development and application of new medicines and medical devices.

The meeting stressed that with the fast development of China's society as well as aging of the population, tumor diseases have become one of the major public health issues that impose severe risks on people's health.

The meeting highlighted that tumor prevention and treatment remains a systematic effort, ranging from prevention, screening and diagnosis, to treatment, rehabilitation, research and talent cultivation, and demands the coordinated efforts of the government, medical institutions, research institutions, enterprises, social organizations and the public.

The meeting called on the CPPCC to leverage its sector-based advantages as a special consultative body and contribute to promoting the Healthy China initiative, especially the prevention and treatment of tumor diseases.
