The General Office of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a symposium on the work of collecting and reporting information on public opinion and social conditions in 2025 in Beijing on Nov 25.

Wang Dongfeng, vice-chairman and secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, delivered a speech at the meeting.

Wang noted that this year, the General Office focused on State affairs and people's livelihoods, and conveyed a large amount of valuable information related to social conditions and public opinion, with both quantity and quality improved. This has effectively supported the Party and the government's scientific decision-making and policy implementation, he added.

Wang stressed the importance of accomplishing the public opinion work in 2026 under the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and in line with the Party and the country's central tasks.

Wang called on promoting public opinion work to reflect Chinese modernization in every aspect. More innovative and effective methods should be taken to improve public opinion work by leveraging the CPPCC's advantages as a special consultative body, in a bid to contribute wisdom and strength to Chinese modernization and high-quality development, he said.

Wang stressed the importance of fully understanding the focus and priorities in public opinion work. He called for visionary, targeted and operable suggestions for the implementation of major decisions outlined at the fourth plenary session, and reporting of information concerning new conditions and issues emerging in the socio-economic development during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) period.

Wang also underscored the importance of ensuring the authenticity and timeliness of all the information so that they can inform policy-making in a more targeted way. The relevant work should be more institutionalized and standardized, and its workforce should also be enhanced, he added.
