On Nov 7, Wang Dongfeng, vice-chairman and secretary-general of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), conducted a survey at Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU), where a member of the CPPCC National Committee without party affiliation is a professor.

The survey focused on studying and implementing the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and improving the scientific and technological innovation mechanisms of universities.

The survey team visited BJTU's history museum and State key laboratory of advanced rail autonomous operation, and learned about the university's development route and laboratory building.

They also held a symposium with CPPCC members and teaching staff. During the meeting, BJTU's leaders gave briefings on the effort the university is putting into studying and implementing the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session and improving scientific and technological innovation mechanisms, and five CPPCC members delivered speeches.

CPPCC members stressed grasping the guidelines for socio-economic development and the major tasks set forth in the recommendations for the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30). They called for developing independent, high-level technologies, strengthening reforms of the scientific and technological innovation mechanisms of universities, building sophisticated talent training bases, making breakthroughs in key technologies, and advancing the training of technological experts qualified for teaching tasks.

CPPCC members without party affiliation were urged to leverage their advantages and do a good job in proposing suggestions and policy recommendations. They should make more efforts to participate in the consultation on and deliberation of State affairs, disseminate the guiding principles of the fourth plenary session among the people, and promote high-quality development through effective performance of duties, so as to build consensus and synergy for the country’s modernization drive, the team noted.
