The 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its 38th biweekly consultation meeting in Beijing on Nov 7. The meeting focused on uniting overseas Chinese and guiding them to convey China's voice.
Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting.
Wang noted that since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has enhanced its leadership over overseas Chinese affairs, and actively encouraged overseas Chinese to participate in exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields, creating a new panorama for this work.
He stressed that the CPPCC should thoroughly implement the CPC Central Committee's decisions and arrangements, encouraging overseas Chinese to contribute more to pressing ahead with China's modernization drive, promoting Chinese culture, advancing unification, and strengthening exchanges between China and other countries.
Wang emphasized that the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation needs joint efforts from compatriots at home and abroad.
Wang called for the CPPCC to conduct in-depth research on comprehensively uniting overseas Chinese and guiding them to make China's voice better heard, actively participate in the deliberation of State affairs, and deepen efforts to foster a stronger bond between overseas Chinese and the motherland.
Wang noted that the CPPCC should focus on the new tasks and demands of comprehensively advancing Chinese modernization during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) period, and unite and encourage overseas Chinese to contribute their strength to promoting high-quality development and high-level opening-up.
He stressed the importance of prioritizing the needs of overseas Chinese, particularly in protecting their rights and interests, preserving cultural heritage, and facilitating international exchanges. Additionally, he emphasized the need to effectively tell Chinese stories through them and to harness their wisdom and strength.
Eleven members of the CPPCC National Committee shared their views at the meeting. They emphasized encouraging overseas Chinese to participate in Belt and Road cooperation.
Overseas Chinese should also support projects for people's livelihood and public welfare, actively contribute to local communities, and fulfill social responsibilities as citizens and residents of their host countries, they said.
They highlighted encouraging overseas Chinese to introduce China in a comprehensive and objective way, so as to enhance the international community's understanding of the country.
They also noted that overseas Chinese should be encouraged to promote cultural exchanges and build friendship between China and other countries.
CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons Hu Chunhua, Shen Yueyue, Wang Yong, Su Hui, Xian Hui, Wang Dongfeng, Jiang Zuojun and He Baoxiang attended the meeting. Senior officials from the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provided briefings and engaged in discussions with CPPCC members.
