On Oct 21, the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSL) hosted the 12th Dajiang Forum in Beijing to mark the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration. More than 250 people participated in the gathering, including representatives of political parties and associations from Taiwan, descendants of patriots who fought against Japanese aggression and representatives of Taiwan youth.

Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairwoman of the Central Committee of the TDSL, addressed the opening ceremony.

Su noted that, in the modern history of China, compatriots across the Taiwan Strait jointly fought against Japanese invaders with their blood and lives and pursued Taiwan's return to the motherland, and Taiwan people made indelible contributions to and sacrificed so much for the overall resistance against Japanese aggression by the whole nation.

As this year marks the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration, she stated that people across the Strait should stand on the new historical starting point, adhere to right perspectives on history, nationality and country, and uphold the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus. People from both sides of the Strait should stoutly oppose the separatist activities and foreign interference, and consolidate Taiwan's restoration as a result of resistance against Japanese aggression, she added.

The Chinese mainland and Taiwan need to deepen integrated development and mutual exchanges, and people across the Strait should actively participate in the great process of achieving Chinese modernization, she noted.
