The Standing Committee of the 11th Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-government League (TDSL) held its 15th meeting in Beijing on Oct 20. Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairwoman of the TDSL Central Committee, addressed the meeting.

Su noted that the meeting is of great significance in building consensus and synergy in the TDSL as the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China is convening its fourth plenary session to deliberate over the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30). As the country commemorates the 80th anniversary of Taiwan's restoration, the TDSL should keep its original aspiration of participating in multi-party cooperation and consolidate the political foundation for unity and hard work, so as to contribute its own strength to overall development agenda of the Party and the country, Su stressed.

Su urged the TDSL to proactively undertake political responsibilities to promote its various causes. Members of the TDSL should actively participate in the deliberation of State affairs to facilitate the conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) and the formulation of the 15th Five-Year Plan, she said. TDSL members should also propose policy recommendations for addressing major issues in reform and development, according to Su.

Su stressed that new forms of exchanges between both sides of the Taiwan Strait should be encouraged. The TDSL should provide better social services, including 20-year assistance to Hezhang county in Southwest China's Guizhou province and democratic supervision on the environmental protection of the Yangtze River, Su said, in order to promote rural vitalization and improve people's wellbeing.
