The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a sector-based consultation meeting on Oct 17 to discuss promoting vocational education for people with disabilities. He Baoxiang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, addressed the gathering.
He noted that special care and attention should be given to people with disabilities, who are an important force for building a modern China. Speeding up the development of vocational education for people with disabilities is key for improving the social security system and care services, and crucial for protecting their rights and integrating them into society, he said.
He urged making full use of the CPPCC's strengths in consultation and sector-based expertise to provide policy recommendations for legal protection, system upgrading and integration between industry and education, in a bid to foster synergy across sectors, and provide solid foundations for the high-quality development of undertakings of people with disabilities.
Officials from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security briefed participants on relevant efforts. Five members of the CPPCC National Committee and representatives from the welfare and social security sectors shared views on issues including improving vocational education for people with disabilities, enhancing the integration between industry and education, promoting inclusive education, and exploring multiple rehabilitation channels for people with disabilities at vocational schools.
