From Oct 13 to 17, Leung Chun-ying, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a survey team of CPPCC National Committee members from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to Shaanxi province, focusing on improving exchanges between Shaanxi and Hong Kong and promoting the high-quality development of Shaanxi.

The team visited technological enterprises, universities, and agricultural bases in the cities of Xi'an and Baoji and smart agricultural parks in the Yangling agricultural high-tech industries demonstration zone, and held discussions with local officials.

The team lauded Shaanxi's efforts in developing technology independently, building a modern industrial system and advancing high-level opening-up. The province has adhered to the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the second and third plenary sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and striven to integrate into and contribute to the building of the new development paradigm with high-quality development as the primary goal, they pointed out.

Noting that Hong Kong is an international financial, shipping and trade hub with an advanced trade system, inclusive business environment and comprehensive global connections, the team said, Shaanxi, as the frontline of the western development strategy of China, has great technological and innovative advantages, rich historical and cultural resources and various scenic spots. As Shaanxi and Hong Kong have different characteristics and advantages that are complementary, they should upgrade cooperation mechanisms in multiple fields such as industry, scientific education, finance, culture and tourism to promote national development and tell good stories about the two regions and China, they said.
