A team from the Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) conducted a survey in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region from Oct 13 to 17, focusing on promoting development and security in border areas. The team was led by Bater, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.

The team visited border ports, border markets, villages, primary and middle schools, and industrial parks in the cities of Fangchenggang, Chongzuo and Baise, and held discussions with local officials and residents.

The team stated that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2012, the CPC Central Committee has proposed a series of measures to develop the border economy, raise the living standard of local residents and safeguard security. The coordinated regional development strategy and the major regional strategies have been improved to build a solid foundation for security and high-quality development of border areas, they noted.

The team emphasized Guangxi's efforts in upgrading infrastructure in border areas, developing distinctive industries, sticking to the opening-up policy, improving the living conditions of the local people, and ensuring  security.

The team noted that the CPPCC should uphold the CPC's leadership in all fields and throughout the whole process of border governance, support border regions in integrating into the new development paradigm while achieving high-quality development, hold the bottom line of ensuring national security and social stability, and research major theoretical and practical problems in border governance. The CPPCC should also give full play to its role in strengthening research, consultation and democratic supervision to enhance border governance, build prosperous border regions and improve the living conditions of local residents, the team said.
