A team from the Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) carried out a survey in East China's Shandong province from October 11 to 15, focusing on strengthening cultural exchanges across the Taiwan Strait and tightening the bonds between compatriots on both sides of the Strait. The team was led by Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League.

The team visited the important platforms and institutions for cross-Strait cultural exchanges in the cities of Tai'an, Jining and Zaozhuang. They held discussions with local officials to learn about Shandong's beneficial practices and advice in promoting cross-Strait integrated development and closer relationship between compatriots on both sides of the Strait.

The team acknowledged Shandong's efforts since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2012 in leveraging cultural advantages, developing traditions of exchanges with Taiwan, tightening emotional bonds and helping Taiwan compatriots develop a correct understanding of history and a strong sense of national identity.

The team emphasized that the CPPCC should adhere to the cross-Strait coordinated development strategies to be made by the upcoming fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and strengthen cultural exchanges while upholding the one-China principle.
